About Us
Southern Africa Institute for Collaborative Research and Innovation Organisation (SAICRIO) is a registered research institution with PACRA as a Limited Company – SAICRO (Southern Africa Institute for Collaborative Research Limited) and Registrar of Societies as a Non-Governmental Organisation — CRIO (Collaborative Research and Innovation Organisation). SAICRIO was incorporated in 2023 and it is a wholly Zambian owned organisation, domiciled in Zambia. SAICRIO’s vision is to advance the well-being and conditions of people and the environment through excellent interdisciplinary scientific research, knowledge, innovation, education, and evidence. AICRIO has an interdisciplinary team with diverse experience and expertise including program development, project management, research (surveys, implementation science, operations research, and research compliance – survey planning, design and execution including sampling, questionnaire development, field training and field operation), statistical• analysis, teaching, capacity building, mentorship, knowledge management, monitoring and evaluation, mathematical modelling, critical thinking, and policy formulation.
Our focus spans diverse sectors, including global health, democracy and governance, education, population dynamics, agriculture, economic development, humanitarian aid, and innovation. We work on critical issues like disease prevention, maternal and child health, climate change, inclusive development, urban planning, and access to clean water and sanitation. By integrating research, policy, and technology, we aim to create sustainable solutions for communities worldwide
Our Background
SAICRIO was foundered by renowned academicians and researchers with a combined over 80 years’ experience. The founders have worked on programs that have strengthened interventions and informed policy, through operations research/implementation science and research utilization ushered in by expertise in a range of innovations, monitoring and evaluation (M&E), and knowledge sharing methodologies adaptable across multiple sectors. As SAICRIO, we envision to collaborate with local and global partners to conduct research, conduct mathematical modelling, develop and evaluate national strategies, and service delivery for fidelity and efficiency gain; build local capacity in OR/IS, and evidence based decision and policy-making; and facilitate scale-up of the most effective approaches for equitable access to care, reaching vulnerable, marginalized, and hard-to-reach populations. SAICRIO prides itself as an institute with a wide pool of a human-resource-base having signed memorandum of understandings with Zambian universities.
SAICRIO will conduct high-quality operations research/implementation science, mathematical modelling, monitoring, and evaluation in the various fields capitalising from experts in SAICRIO and from the Universities in Zambia and in the Southern Africa Region. In addition, SAICRIO will build capacity and support trainings in different government Ministries to conduct research and utilize results to inform programs and policies, as well as mentor Masters, PHD and Post-Doctorate students in research. We envision to establish a scientific footprint that covers all the provinces of Zambia and the Southern African region.
